We are delighted that Marygate, a contemporary re-imagining and deep retrofit of a 1950s dwelling, has won in the Single Residence and Young People’s categories at the York Design Awards 2026.

Marygate is a contemporary extension and re-imagining of a neo-classical dwelling from the 1950s. Situated on one of the most historic streets in York, it is almost entirely hidden by substantial boundary walls.

The house delivers special moments throughout and substantially redefines the original layout. A clever first floor landing extension provides children’s bedrooms needed and the space to grow as a family.
