ABOUT US

GEM Construction was founded by Mike Green, now Chairman, in 1997. Mike has 35 years’ experience in the construction industry having started his career as an apprentice bricklayer and achieving an HNC in Quantity Surveying.

GEM employs 35 full time staff including project and site managers, quantity surveyors and specialist tradesmen including heritage stonemasonry and heritage trained joiners.

Our Managing Director, Jon-Paul Wong, has been with the company since 2001. He has a degree in Construction and Project Management and began by working on site as a builder rapidly progressing to Project Manager and then becoming Managing Director in 2012.

The key to our success is the skilled team of people that we employ. Many of the team have been working with us for more than ten years and we have developed a company culture of a strong work ethic, high integrity and standards and dedication to ensure the customer always receives 100% quality, commitment and service.

We are proud to be accredited members of CHAS and have won the Lord Mayor’s Award at the York Design Awards in 2014 for the sensitive conversion of The Star Inn the City and in 2015 for The Garden House, a two bedroom property on a historic site in the grounds of York Minster.
